The Sim-X simulator centre in Skien, Norway, has three simulators, each equipped with large curved screens to give a 180-degree field of vision. In the adrenalin-fuelled session, drivers can race against friends and talk to each other while they're driving. In either Formula 1 or street cars, they can choose between rally, rally cross or track racing with a range of racetracks to try out. Suitable for anyone over 12 years old, the centre can accommodate up to 25 people at a time – ideal for corporate events or parties.
“ML750ST gave us excellent quality and value for money, especially when you consider the long life time of the LED light source. The installation was incredibly straightforward.”
Olav Sandnes, the CEO of Warpalizer Norway AS
“On paper, the ML750ST has just 800 LED brightness, so we were concerned it would not be bright enough but the image it creates is incredibly bright and vibrant.”
Sim-X founder, Cato Mortensen
“It was totally king. We ran everything from Gymkhana to F1. I am looking forward to trying this again soon!”
Sim-X customer, Andre Drifting
: “We have used various Optoma projectors for a wide range of different simulators during the last few years. We are not only pleased by the price performance the projectors offer, but certainly also by the attention and service level offered by the Optoma team in Norway.”

The Challenge

Challenge

Sim-X wanted to build a brand new entertainment facility in Skien, Norway, with a focus on motor racing.

With multiple simulators in a network, Sim-X simulator centre would offer groups and individuals the chance to race each other on the same track at the same time.

To create a completely immersive, realistic experience, it wanted a 1.2m high, 180⁰ curved screen to fill the drivers’ field of vision.  This would need several small, quiet and unobtrusive projectors blended into one seamless image.

Solution

The team installed three ML750ST LED projectors into the roof of each simulator.  Weighing just 420g, these tiny projectors have a short throw lens that can project a large image from a short distance away.

With instant power on/off LED technology, the ML750ST is primed for instant plug-and-play viewing. And the extraordinary life of LEDs (20,000 hours) will ensure it stays clear and bright for years to come.

Simulation and digital signage applications are ideal for the ML750ST as the projector can be mounted in virtually any orientation and it connects instantly to the image generator as soon as the projector is switched on.

Olav Sandnes, the CEO of Warpalizer Norway AS, said: “ML750ST gave us excellent quality and value for money, especially when you consider the long life time of the LED light source.  The installation was incredibly straightforward.”

The projectors were blended and warped with Warpalizer software to ensure a totally seamless and geometrically correct visual system.

With the simulators networked, drivers can race against friends and talk to each other while they're driving.  In either Formula 1 or street cars, they can choose between rally, rally cross or track racing with a range of racetracks to try out.

For additional realism, the racing seats and steering wheels give driver-feedback during the race.

Results

The simulators have gone beyond expectations of both Sim-X and its customers.  They are realistic and great fun to drive.

Sim-X founder, Cato Mortensen, said: “On paper, the ML750ST has just 800 LED brightness, so we were concerned it would not be bright enough but the image it creates is incredibly bright and vibrant.”

And they are proving popular with visitors too.

Sim-X customer, Andre Drifting, said: “It was totally king. We ran everything from Gymkhana to F1. I am looking forward to trying this again soon!”

Sim-X customer, Joakim Malek, said: “Fantastic fun and excellent service from all employees. Recommended.
